building should promote social and ecological health and well-being

Our goal is to improve and enhance the way homes are built.  In our view, the act of building should promote social and ecological health and well-being while creating structures that perform well in all weather conditions and are comfortable, beautiful and long-lasting.

We believe there is a real benefit in providing a building process that does not define success solely by whether a project is built well, on time and on budget.  Intrinsic values, such as environmental and social responsibility, are critical to our definition of success.  Together with our clients, we sculpt, define and redefine these often subjective priorities.  By considering more than the building itself, we can provide an added value that will help change the antiquated construction paradigm that only considers the bottom line.

designer, builder, consultant

My work celebrates modest materials, energy efficiency, and finely-crafted details.  I have a relentless passion for simple design and alternative construction methods juxtaposed against modern aesthetics and utilitarian amenities.

Solarwise was established in 2002 in an off-grid cabin nestled within the Sawatch Mountain Range of Colorado.  My enthusiasm to live a deliberate lifestyle encouraged my efforts to create homes with greater environmental responsibility.  One of my first design/build projects was the Meadowlark home.  It was built for my dad and served as a full-scale model illustrating my design and construction principles.  To this day, we continue to build upon the same concepts that utilize quality design, high-performance building systems, and a collaborative process throughout.
